Terry Eugene Hager Obituary - 2023 (2024)

Terry Eugene Hager, 81, of Norton, KS passed away March 3, 2023. He was born December 19, 1941 in Norton to Gene and Evelyn (Smith) Hager.

Terry grew up in Norton and was a 1960 graduate of Norton Community High School. In high school, he was awarded the Kansas Star Farmer award and then he went on to receive the highest degree achievable in the National FFA Organization, the American Farmer Degree. Terry married Mary Ann Drommer on August 19, 1961, at the Norton Christian Church. He joined the Army National Guard and went to Ft. Leonard Wood for training and then was called up during the Berlin Crisis in 1961 and served until 1963. Terry and Mary Ann were co-owners of the Norton Sale Barn from 1972-1977. He had a Dairy Farm for many years and then after selling that business he began working for New Age Industrial Corp. Terry was a member of the Norton Saddle Club, Norton County Fair Board, and National DHIA.

Terry had a love for hard work and animals. He always hired high schoolers and enjoyed teaching them how to work hard. He enjoyed furthering their ag education by being active in the 4-H sheep program and he would also have kids come out to the dairy farm to practice their dairy judging. Many families would bring their children out to the farm to see all their animals and Terry looked forward to those visits as much as the kids. He will always be remembered for riding his Ranger up and down KQNK Rd. with his dog Millie (and even goats or lambs) checking in on his neighbors.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Riley Hager; brother-in-law, Don Johnson and parents-in-law, Marvin and Marjorie Drommer. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Hager of the home; children: Craig (Nancy) Hager of Norton, Jeff (Kathy) Hager of Norton, Pam (Shawn) Miller of Norton, and Deyton Hager of Cambridge, NE; sister, Connie Johnson of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren: Austin (Stepheni Peltier) Hager of Norton, Adrienne (Kade) Tremblay of Penokee, KS, Nick Hager of Dallas, TX, Erica (Jeff) Giles of Dallas, TX, Dillon McConney of Norton, Dalton (Torey) Miller of McCook, NE, Baylee Miller of Mission, KS, Stephanie (Jesse) Hilburn of Almena, KS, Alec Hager of Colby, KS and Mason Hager of Cambridge, NE; great grandchildren: Brantley, Logan, and Mackenna Hager, Hadley Tremblay, Carson and Kayce Hager, Christopher Giles, Ariel Miller, and Jance, Stetson, and River Hilburn; brother- in- law, Roger (Kathy) Drommer of Plano, Texas and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 am Friday, March 10, 2023 at the Norton Christian Church. Inurnment with military honors will follow at the Norton Cemetery.
